Eat food, then count it

Build meals around protein, vegetables, and a starch you actually like. Weigh or measure the parts that are easy to overpour: oil, nuts, cheese, cereal. Do not cut out an entire food group unless a clinician has told you to. Use the meal ideas as a starting plate, not a rulebook.

A plate you would eat next week

Build the meal first, then count it. A useful default is a clear protein, a pile of vegetables, and a starch you already like: rice, potato, bread, oats, pasta. Fat is already in the cooking and the protein. You do not need a list of banned foods to lose weight.

Protein at each meal is what makes the afternoon quieter. Eggs, yogurt, fish, chicken, tofu, beans, or meat all count. You do not need a gram target from this site. If a meal is only toast and coffee, add the protein before you cut the toast.

Measure the quiet calories

The misses are usually poured, not plated. Oil, butter, nut butter, cheese, cereal, dressing, and juice move the day by hundreds of calories without looking like a second meal. Weigh or measure those for a week until your eye learns the spoon. After that, spot-check rather than weighing every leaf.

Restaurant meals and homemade stews will be estimates. A close estimate you log is better than skipping the entry because you are unsure. The diary is for the pattern, not for a laboratory total.

Do not invent a stricter diet

Do not drop an entire food group unless a clinician has told you to. Bread, fruit, dairy, and potatoes are not the reason a deficit fails. Cutting them makes the week brittle, and the first social meal becomes a blowout.

Drinks count. A latte, a juice, and two beers can erase the care you took with lunch. Log them in the same place as food. If alcohol is most of the surplus, that is the lever, not a smaller breakfast.

Log the day you had

An honest log that includes the biscuits is more useful than a tidy log that does not. If you blow past the target, write it down and eat the next meal as planned. Do not skip dinner to “fix” lunch. Skipping is how the night gets larger.

The meal ideas are ordinary plates with calories attached. Use them when you are stuck, not as the only food you are allowed. Log anything else on the log page.

This is general information, not personal medical advice. If you are unwell, talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before you change how you eat.
